Public Administration and European Integration in Candidate Countries (graduate level)

The graduate course offers an overview of EU Executive Politics. The emphasis is put on the impact that the European Integration process has on the structures and functions of national governments and public administration of the member-states and candidate countries. The focus is both on the theoretical framework and the empirical studies of Europeanization of national executives. The case of Albania is treated extensively as a case study.

The module will present the most fundamental theoretical and practical questions related to Europeanization. It will expose the scholarly discussions on the concept, the process and the specific mechanisms and conditions of Europeanization. The emphasis will be given to the Europeanization of EU candidate countries, domestic impact related to EU enlargement, focusing primarily on specific issues and countries from South East Europe. The Europeanization domestic capacities and the EU transformative power in the Western Balkans will be discussed extensively.
