Open Lecture on European Integration and Human Rights by Prof. mr. Egbert Myjer

The Jean Monnet Chair at Marin Barleti University, the Faculty of Foreign Language at University of Tirana and the EU Policy Hub, in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tirana organized in the framework of the Dutch Presidency of the European Union Council an Open Lecture on European Integration and Human Rights by Prof. mr. Egbert Myjer.

The participants were pedagogues and students of Tirana University and Marin Barleti University, and representatives of Civil Society.

Dr. Dorian Jano, Jean Monnet Chair, moderated the meeting. The Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Tirana University, Dr. Albana Shijaku addressed the welcoming speech to this event appreciating the collaboration of the Jean Monnet Chair with public universities in realizing such activities. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tirana, H.E. Mrs. Dewi van de Weerd, appreciated also the activities of the Jean Monnet Public Mobile Academy held at different universities in the country and discussing various issues of human rights.

Prof. mr. Egbert Myjer, an academic expert of judiciary and for many years member of the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg, made a detailed summary of the historical development of human rights and their importance on the European Integration. Prof. Myjer talked about the implementation of the human rights legislation in different fields, in European countries bringing cases from the Human Rights Court. Questions were asked to professor Myjer with regards to human rights implementation and judiciary independence.
